In Tema Central Constituency, three persons, two (2) males and one (1) female have filed to contest the Party’s primaries scheduled for 13th May, 2023 for the opportunity to be on the ballot for the Party in the 2024 election.

These three aspirants, Courage Makafui Nunekpeku, Carl Owuompesika and Ebi Bright, will take their turn with the Vetting Committee tomorrow, Wednesday 5th April, 2023 at the party’s Regional Headquarters.

Ebi Bright represented the Party in the 2016 and 2020 elections but lost on both occasions to the NPP candidates.

In a telephone conversation with one of her staunch supporters, Solomon Akpanaba, popularly known as Teacher Solo, he expressed optimism that Ebi Bright, having previously gone through the process twice successfully, this one will not be different. “In the 2016 and 2020 elections, I don’t see anything bad she did, or any good she didn’t do which should lead to her disqualification”, he said.

On why he thinks his candidate is the best person to lead the party going into the 2024 elections, Teacher Solo said Ebi Bright’s experience and popularity within the constituency puts her above her competitors. To him, the other candidates have not positioned themselves well in the constituency to lead the party so his candidate stands tall amongst them.

Referred to by many as the “Grassroots Man”, Carl Owuompesika contested the 2019 parliamentary primaries but lost to Ebi Bright.

In separate conversation with him, he was hopeful of going through vetting successfully stating. “I am of good standing in the party, therefore I will go through the vetting”.

For Mr. Owuompesika being among those who birthed the Tema Central Constituency, he has the needed experience to win the seat for the party should he be given the nod. “I am part of those who birthed this constituency. I know the Constituency and its people very well. Therefore, I know what to tell the people to win the seat in the general election”, he said. According to him, he will go into the election backed by data. He hinted that he has the needed data to help him win the seat for the Party.

Cyril Tsatsu Kumedzro, a Campaign Team member for Courage Makafui Nunekpeku is confident his candidate will pass through the vetting process successfully. “Even though there are some machinations from the camp of one of our competitors to disqualify our candidate, we are sure Courage will sail through because he is of firm standing and has nothing to hide, we are ready”, Mr Kumedzro asserted.

Mr. Kumedzro believes the 2024 election will not be an easy one so the Party needs a candidate with the character, charismas and fortitude to snatch the seat from the NPP.

“The 2024 election won’t be easy. We need somebody with character, charisma and fortitude, an NDC person who knows the grounds well to ensure we get the seat. It is not about doing the same things always which lead to a loss. To win the main election, no candidate can do the job better than Courage”, Mr. Kumedzro opined.
