“Okada” rider praised for returning $50,000 cash to owner
Emmanuel Tolue, a young “okada” (motorcycle taxi) rider has become a national hero in Liberia after he returned a cash amount of $50,000 (£37,000) he saw on a highway wrapped in a plastic bag to the owner.
The money got missing from, Musu Yancy, a prominent businesswoman in north-eastern Nimba County on the border with Ivory Coast.
Emmanuel returned the cash to Musu when he heard her desperately making a radio appeal to anyone who had come across the money to return it.
Musu and her boss rewarded Emmanuel with $1,500 (£1,100) and other gifts.
She was so happy and relieved about getting the money back she has almost lost her voice thanking God.
The BBC reports that several well-wishers have been pouring into the house of the businesswoman in Tappita in celebration while singing the praises of the motorcyclist.
