NPP PRIMARIES: “NDC SPONSORING OKYEM ABOAGYE” – KOKOFU
The immediate past New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament for Bantama Constituency in the Ashanti Region, Henry Kwabena Kokofu, has accused some members of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) of sponsoring and campaigning for Hon. Daniel Okyem Aboagye in his bid to become the Parliamentary candidate of the NPP in this year’s general elections.
Speaking via phone on Accra-based Okay FM morning show programme hosted by Kwame Nkrumah Tikesie, the former MP said not long ago, he appeared on a radio programme with Chief Biney, NDC Deputy National Organiser, in which he (Chief Biney) campagned for Hon. Okyem Aboagye when the issue of NPP primaries in the Bantama Constituency came up for discussion.
Also, he accused Hon. Mubarak Mohammed Muntaka, NDC MP for Asawase Constituency of vigorously campaigning for Okyem Aboagye.
Hon. Kokofu rejected the suggestion by these NDC men that Okyem Aboagye should be retained because he is the government’s spokesperson on finance. He argued that apart from the Minister of Finance and his three deputies, there is a parliamentary select committee on finance as well as an economic management team made up of men with vast knowledge in finance with vice president Bawumia as the head who do not need Okyem Aboagye in their activities. He therefore thinks there’s a hidden motive behind the NDCs support for the incumbent MP. He wondered why the opposition should worry about who represents the NPP in the constituency.
Mr Kokofu also alleged that the NDC has committed resources to support some selected aspirants in the NPP primaries to enhance their agenda. He said this is in retaliation to a statement made by Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NPP, Bernard Antwi Boasiako (Chairman Wontumi), that he would influence the NDC election of executives by making sure his moles came out victorious.
Hon. Daniel Okyem Aboagye is the current member of parliament for Bantama constituency dreaming of a second term stay in the legislative house. He faces a stiff internal contest with Francis Asenso-Boakye, a current deputy chief of staff in the NPP parliamentary candidateship election which off this Saturday, 20th June, 2020.
