DANGER LOOMING IN ASHAIMAN
There is a looming danger in Ashaiman Municipality in the Greater Accra Region as some “trotro” drivers and “okada” riders have taken the laws into their own hands by turning parts of the principal street of the busy town into a loading bay.
The part of the street from the Ashaiman Traffic Light to the Stanbic Bank Branch Area and the traffic light to the Melcom Supermarket /main station area have all been taken by these drivers and riders and being used as loading area for passengers travelling towards Michel Camp/Afienya and Tema township.
Some also operate close to fuel stations and mechanical shops on that stretch of road on both ends. Traders have also taken over part of the road and making vehicular and pedestrian movement very difficult to the extent that there is heavy traffic around that stretch.
It would be recalled that a Kia truck loaded with blocks recently ran into traders and pedestrians who were engaged in buying and selling at the road in front of the Ashaiman market killing and injury many people.
All efforts and complaints lodged at the Municipal Assembly and Ghana Police Service Motor department by the GPRTU Ashaiman branch executives and other stakeholders in and around that enclave to get these drivers off the road have not achieved any results.
