Civil Society Organisation, the Coalition for Restoration (CFR) has called on Ghanaians to condemn “the treasonable statements” made by Bryan Acheampong.

Mr. Acheampong, the Member of Parliament for Abetifi and Minister for Food and Agriculture addressing members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) after a health walk at Mpraeso on Saturday, April 8, 2023, said the NPP will never hand over power to the NDC.

He said the NPP will use whatever means possible to hold on to power come 2025.

“If the NDC think they will go into the 2024 election with intimidation, harassment and foolishness, then we will show them that we have the men”, he emphasized.

“It will never happen that we the NPP will hand over power to the NDC”, he added.

A statement released on Wednesday April 12, 2023 by CFR said it expected the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the government to distance “themselves from such insane utterances, they have rather thrown their support behind him”.

Therefore, CFR believes that Mr. Acheampong’s statement is a “clearest signal yet of decisions that have been made from the corridors of power.”

“It appears to us that NPP is willing to plunge this country into chaos and war to hold onto power after losing the trust and confidence of the good people of Ghana after driving the country into a ditch and unleashing unprecedented excruciating hardships,” part of the statement read.

CFR has therefore called on “all well-meaning Ghanaians who are interested in the peace and future” of the country to “rise and condemn Mr. Acheampong and his party for contemplating such undemocratic choices.”

“In as much as it is gratifying to state that some well-meaning Ghanaians have already condemned this war-mongering regime, we all must join forces to reject the politicians who are hellbent on maintaining a political office at the risk of our lives”.

“What exactly are they trying to hide from the good people of Ghana by refusing to hand over power after 8 years of rule?”

“CFR is very disturbed by the loud silence of the National Peace Council, the Council of State, the National House of Chiefs, and the clergy on the irresponsible comments made by the Minister who ought to know that,

sovereignty resides in the people and has refused to admit that when citizens exercise their constitutional rights by voting out a government, it does not lie in the mouth of its reckless appointees to exercise any form of discretion outside of the democratic process.”
