Assassin’s Creed in Japan is coming! carries “Project Red” codename

According to a number of reports, Ubisoft is working on a new project dubbed “Assassin’s Creed: Infinity“. The new game may be the star of the upcoming September event that will determine the future of the franchise. As per several journalists and insiders, the project will arrive as a live service. The company will add continuous content over time to keep players playing. Apparently, a good portion of this project will bring a highly-requested background: Feudal Japan.

The Japanese background is coming to Assassin’s Creed, but is this what fans have been asking for?

Fans of the franchise have been asking for a “Ninja Assassin” in the Feudal Japan period for eons. However, Ubisoft never delivered this period. The company’s most recent entry Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla tells us about Nordic Mythology and the Viking Period. The closest feeling we had for Assassins Creed in the Japanese period was in Ghost of Tsushima. However, it’s a completely different game in terms of story. Anyway, Sony’s project is reaching the 10 million sales mark. We’re pretty sure that Ubisoft regretted never exploring the scenario.

According to Jeff Grub, the next game, or the first part of “Assassins Creed: Infinite” carries the “Project Red” codename. According to him, the background of the game will be Japan. Kotaku, however, says it could not be identified as Japan. However, internal sources say that in addition to strong requests from fans, Ubisoft has been considering the Japanese background for a long time.

In addition to this, Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier commented on Kotaku’s revelation that Project Red is part of Assassin’s Creed: Infinite. Although most of the report suggests this is a free-to-play live service, that may not be 100% true. According to Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot, it’s not a free-to-play game. So you can expect a paywall to get access to the game. Anyway, the CEO states that it will bring innovation and at the same time will have familiar elements.
