Agenda 111: Facilities to expect in each hospital
His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, President of the Republic today cut sod for the commencement of his government’s ambitious project known as Agenda 111.
Under this project, 111 hospitals will be constructed. This includes the construction of 101 hospitals in each of 101 districts in the country currently without district hospitals, 7 regional hospitals for the newly created regions including a new one for the Western Region and 2 psychiatric hospitals for the Middle and Northern Belts and also the rehabilitation of the Effia-Nkwanta Government Hospital in the Western region with all expected to be completed within 18 months.
Speaking at the sod cutting ceremony at Trede in the Atwima Kwanwoma District of the Ashanti Region, the president said each hospital will cost the nation $16.88 million – $12.88 million for construction and $4 million for medical equipment.
The president said each state-of-the-art hospital will be equipped with “facilities for outpatient services, including construction facilities for medical and surgical cases, ophthalmology and dental services, a physiotherapy unit, maternal and child health unit, public health unit, four (4) state of the art surgical theatres for maternity, obs and gynae, accident and emergency, and for general surgery and imaging facilities”.
“In addition, each hospital will have the full complement of male, female, paediatric and isolation wards”, the president stated.
He also said that provision had been made for the inclusion of support facilities such as “kitchen, laundry, sterilization department, mortuary, energy centre, maintenance department, and staff accommodation for doctors, nurses and other health workers” to each hospital.
